Discovering new trades: « Défi Montréal »

A sixteen- week-program that allows participants to discover
non-traditional trades by visiting enterprises and
schools and doing stages in a work environment. Follow-up and placement
guaranteed , a social worker prepares the participants to go on the job market.

Goal:

Help immigrant women , newly arrived , over 35 , living on Welfare or with no income, to join the job market by doing trainings, stages and information sessions.

Contents :

This program offers a six-week training here at the organization.
Information sessions, counselling workshops , visits to learning establishments,
the participants get to learn the different options offered .Later on, they
have two stages to do at different enterprises, four weeks each.
This program is oriented towards trades of the future, that means trades that reach a
90% placement rate and more and this, for the years to come.
The participants can get initiated in a non-traditional trade or a
new profession before going back to school to exploit their
competences and integrate into the job market.

Supervision :

All along the program, the stages and their joining the job market, the
participants are supervised by a social worker who guarantees a personal follow-up
and who is helped by a placement committee. The
participants in this program may be admitted into other programs offered at
Petites-Mains and can profit from other services such as :
French courses ,the placement service and the information sessions .

Admissibility :

Women with no income or living on Welfare , newly arrived (5 years and more),
looking to integrate into the job market or to get career orientation.
